Sie erreichen eine Körperlänge von 50 Millimetern und eine Flügelspannweite von 60 bis 75 Millimetern. Die Körper der europäischen Arten sind durchweg metallisch blaugrün gefärbt, die Männchen besitzen außerdem auffallend blauschimmernde Flügel.
