Das Amphietheater wurde im Mittelalter aus Platzmangel überbaut. Die Form blieb aber erhalten, und bildet nun einen einzigartigen grossen ovalen Platz in der Stadt. Nur aussen erkennt man die alten, weiter herausragenden, römischen Bögen aus Backstein.
