Beschreibung:

Die Basler Hauptpost ist ein Gebäude aus Sandstein in der Altstadt von Grossbasel. Der Bau befindet sich an der Rüdengasse.

Er entstand 1376 bis 1378 als Kaufhaus. 1559 bis 1596 entstand ein Torbogen, der Daniel Heintz zugeordnet wird und anlässlich des Umbaus zum Postgebäude im Jahr 1853 an die Freie Strasse versetzt wurde. Eine Erweiterung des Gebäudes wurde 1881 unter der Leitung des Wiener Dombaumeisters Friedrich von Schmidt durchgeführt.
