Zwölf Reihen von 28, insgesamt also 336 jeweils acht Meter hohen Säulen mit überwiegend korinthischen Spolienkapitellen tragen das Gewölbe. Darüber befand sich eine große Basilika, daher wird die Zisterne auch cisterna basilica genannt.
