Le Tabebuia heterophylla est un arbre de 15 à 20 m de haut, de la famille des Bignoniaceae, originaire des Antilles. Le nom vernaculaire de poirier vient de son fruit qui ressemble à une gousse de petits pois, dit en créole poïer, retranscrit poire.
