Les iguanes passent une très grande majorité de leur temps inactifs, perchés sur une branche d'arbre. Une étude a ainsi révélé qu'un Iguane vert consacrait 3% de son temps à la reproduction, 1% à la recherche de la nourriture et qu'il demeurait inactif 96% du temps. Il n'a en effet pas réellement de déplacement à faire pour chercher sa nourriture, et il mange plus en période humide qu'en période sèche, adaptant sa consommation à la ressource en nourriture.
