| Titel: | Kirche des Stift Ardagger | | Aufnahmestandort: | Im Friedhof vor der Kirche. | | Beschreibung: | Die Stiftskirche ist der Heiligen Margareta geweiht. Die spätromanische Basilika wurde 1063 geweiht und im 2. Viertel des 13. Jahrhunderts umgebaut. 1529 wurde das Gotteshaus bei den Türkeneinfällen stark beschädigt. Die Kirche mit erhöhtem Chor und darunterliegender Krypta zeigt heute eine barocke Stuckausstattung von 1678 durch Giovanni Colomba. Das Margaretenfenster (1230-40) ist die älteste figürliche Glasmalerei Österreichs. Der heutige Kirchturm wurde 1780 anstelle eines nicht fertiggestellten Doppelturmes erbaut und musste 1804 neu errichtet werden. | | Schlüsselwörter: | Kirche |
