Description:

La ville d'Espalion, dominée par le château de Calmont d'Olt, est traversée par le Lot (au centre de la photo) après sa confluence avec la Boralde de Flaujac. Planté dans une campagne fertile, l'adage «Espalion, premier sourire du midi» se comprend surtout pour le pèlerin venu du nord par d'austères chemins (l'Aubrac est en haut à gauche sur la photo).

Sur les rives du Lot s'alignent les façades des maisons pittoresques aux balcons de bois en encorbellement. Ce sont d'anciennes tanneries, les «calquières», visibles à gauche du centre de la photo.
